Ingredients

Scale
  • Fritters:
3/4 Cup all-purpose flour, 3/4 Cup white whole wheat flour, 1/2 Cup brown sugar, 2 teaspoons baking powder, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, 1/4 teaspoon allspice, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 6 Tablespoons cold butter (cut into pieces), 1/2 Cup milk, 1 egg, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1 Cup chopped apple.
  • Glaze:
1 Cup confectioner's sugar, 2 Tablespoons milk, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, mix both flours, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and salt.
  • Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk milk, egg, and vanilla extract, then add to the dry mixture.
  • Fold in the chopped apples.
  • Drop spoonfuls of batter onto the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, until golden brown.
  • Whisk together confectioner's sugar, milk, and vanilla for the glaze.
  • Once fritters are cool, drizzle the glaze on top and serve.

Notes

  • Ensure the butter is cold to create a tender crumb texture in the fritters.
  • You can substitute the white whole wheat flour with all-purpose flour if preferred.
