These homemade Big Apple Fritters are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and filled with fresh apples and warm spices. Perfectly fried to golden brown and glazed with a sweet icing, they make an irresistible treat for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 cups diced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

For the Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • In another bowl, beat eggs, milk, and vanilla extract. Stir in melted butter.
  • Toss diced apples with lemon juice, then fold them into the wet ingredients.
  • Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until combined.
  • Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pan to 350°F (175°C).
  • Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, frying for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  • Remove fritters and drain on paper towels.
  • Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to make the glaze. Drizzle over warm fritters.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • Best served fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
  • Reheat in an oven at 350°F for a few minutes to restore crispiness.
  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg to the glaze.
