  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13-inch pan or two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  • Alternately add dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
  • Pour batter into the prepared pan(s) and smooth the top.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For extra moisture, substitute half of the milk with sour cream or buttermilk.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
